My expectations were too high ~ it's really good, has some good brain science introduction for kids and would be a good way to reinforce the importance of errors in learning and activate a growth mindset。 I was just slightly annoyed at the "first 10 years" focus as someone who works with middle schoolers and just learned the super powerful brain development opportunities that are in those adolescent years, akin to those of the first 5!!, and this that comment made me wonder if some of this was o My expectations were too high ~ it's really good, has some good brain science introduction for kids and would be a good way to reinforce the importance of errors in learning and activate a growth mindset。 I was just slightly annoyed at the "first 10 years" focus as someone who works with middle schoolers and just learned the super powerful brain development opportunities that are in those adolescent years, akin to those of the first 5!!, and this that comment made me wonder if some of this was out of date。 All in all, great and useful just not the perfection I'd set it up to be in my head!n 。。。more

This book was a great nonfiction book about the part and function of the brain for use with elementary age children。 In working with preschoolers I found this to be a bit too involved for 3-5 year olds, but the book did a great job of giving an overview of the of brain, what each part does, and it does a great job of helping children build vocabulary related to the parts and functions of the brain。

This is definitely a bit advanced (and really long!) for Stella, but she loves it anyways。 Lots of detail about what your brain can do, different parts of your brain, etc。

Jen

3。5 stars。 This isn’t the kind of book you would read over and over again, but it is perfect for introducing the idea of having a growth mindset! It is non-fiction picture book about how the brain works。 Parents and teachers will definitely want to discuss this book with their kids。

I like everything about this book except the odd, really long, recap on the penultimate page。 It makes the parts of the brain and what they do make sense to kids and adults alike。 A great book for discussing a growth mindset, explaining why practice matters, explaining why everything is hard before it's easy。 I found it informative as an adult。 I asked a 4th grader for her review and she said it was funny and "has good science"。 I like everything about this book except the odd, really long, recap on the penultimate page。 It makes the parts of the brain and what they do make sense to kids and adults alike。 A great book for discussing a growth mindset, explaining why practice matters, explaining why everything is hard before it's easy。 I found it informative as an adult。 I asked a 4th grader for her review and she said it was funny and "has good science"。 。。。more

A very nice basic overview of our brains。 Even helpful for grown-ups: "Making mistakes is one of the best ways your brain learns and grows。 If you aren't willing to risk being wrong, you won't take the chances that S-T-R-E-T-C-H your elastic brain。" A very nice basic overview of our brains。 Even helpful for grown-ups: "Making mistakes is one of the best ways your brain learns and grows。 If you aren't willing to risk being wrong, you won't take the chances that S-T-R-E-T-C-H your elastic brain。" 。。。more

Very creative and informative way of teaching youth about the brain。 But better yet, it explains how children can have a strategy to overcome challenges in their life。 Important illustrations are used to teach complex concepts on learning。

Did you know you can stretch and grow your brain? Or that making mistakes is one of the best ways your brain learns? Just like how lifting weights helps your muscles get stronger, trying new things without giving up strengthens your brain。 With easy-to-digest facts and humorous illustrations, this is the perfect introduction to growth mindset for readers of all ages。

Three stars from me because that rating means, “it was okay。” I wanted to really like or love this book。 But the parts that stand out to me most after putting it away and just thinking about it before writing a review are those that involved the mouse and the owl。 They interjected a little bit of humor, but overall, I felt like the book couldn’t figure out its target audience and threw a lot out there, hoping something would stick in the reader’s mind 。 The variety of illustrations of kids in ac Three stars from me because that rating means, “it was okay。” I wanted to really like or love this book。 But the parts that stand out to me most after putting it away and just thinking about it before writing a review are those that involved the mouse and the owl。 They interjected a little bit of humor, but overall, I felt like the book couldn’t figure out its target audience and threw a lot out there, hoping something would stick in the reader’s mind 。 The variety of illustrations of kids in action was also just too much。 I feel like less action might have actually been more memorable。 The one page I didn’t like was the soccer page - just not into encouraging heading and I wish there would have been an inclusion of at least a one liner talking about how important it is to protect the brain。 。。。more

An excellent choice for a back to school book in your elementary classroom。 I enjoyed the mix of science and psychology。 As an avid reader of brain-based psychology books, I found her information accurate and up to date。 Try it when your class is in the middle of a blue day。 This will perk you up and re-energize!
